Indie Rock

by Mark Johnson

The BC-bred four-year-old filly Indie Rock , piloted by Amadeo Perez, kept on with her winning ways on Saturday, May 12th destroying a solid field of fellow female runners in an Allowance for non-winners of three. At the end of the six and one-half furlongs in 1:18.17 her nearest competitor, Classic Statement, another BC bred, was 7 3/4 lengths behind. Indie Rock is trained by John Snow, owned by John Snow, High Stakes Thoroughbreds and 3480 Equine Inc. LLP and she was bred in Langley by John and Tammy Snow. Indie Rock is by Second in Command out of the stakes winning mare Concert Music. Concert Music has also produced stakes placed, five-time winner Rock Concert. Given her breeding and exceptional form this filly may find herself taking on stakes company in the very near future.

Next Otis

by Mark Johnson

This past Sunday at Hastings Racecourse the BC-bred gelding Next Otis showed real determination in winning an Allowance test for non-winners of 2, for three-year-olds. He made every post a winning one and just hung on to nose out the victory with rider Enrique Gonzalez getting him home just in time. Mark Cloutier conditions the gray or roan gelding for owners Canmor Farms and Tracy McCarthy. Bred by Ole Nielsen, Next Otis is out of stakes winner Sky Borne and by Stephanotis which makes him a full brother to multiple BC stakes winner Notis Otis, who made over $270,000 and was just a nose away from being a perfect 5 for 5 in his 2004 two-year- old campaign. Next Otis has shown some real lick but has big shoes to fill if he hopes to match his brother's accomplishments.

Not Bourbon (Not Impossible – Bourbon Belle) passed away on December 28, 2025, at the age of 20. Bred and owned by Charles Fipke and trained by Roger Attfield, Not Bourbon was an exceptional racehorse whose accomplishments earned him a place in Canadian racing history. During his career on the track, Not Bourbon captured some of the nation’s most prestigious races, including the Queen’s Plate, Plate Trial, Queenston Stakes, and Overskate Stakes. As a two-year-old, he showed early promise by winning the Bull Page Stakes and setting a track record for six furlongs at Woodbine. Over the course of three racing seasons, Not Bourbon earned more than one million dollars, and his outstanding three-year-old campaign was recognized with a Sovereign Award. Retired to stud, Not Bourbon went on to become a champion sire in Ontario, further cementing his legacy in the breeding shed. In 2020, he relocated to British Columbia, standing his first season at Emerald Acres in Aldergrove, before moving to Flying Horse Farm in West Kelowna, where he continued to make a meaningful contribution to the provincial breeding industry. Not Bourbon will be remembered for his talent as a racehorse and his contributions to breeding in both Ontario and British Columbia.
