Another Guinness

by Mark Johnson

BC bred three-year-old gelding Another Guinness , broke through in his fourth lifetime start and won a Maiden Special Weight on Saturday with a sparkling late rally. The final time for the six and one-half furlongs was 1:19.13 after BC bred, The Chances R set very fast fractions of 22.48 and 45.87 before Another Guinness, ridden by Enrique Gonzalez, rallied along the rail to nail the front runner. Besides a large win purse, Another Guinness earned another $10,000 in bonus money for George Gilbert, $5,000 for breeding and $5,000 more for owning this fine animal. He was trained to his first victory by Phil Hall. Another Guinness is by Rosberg out of the Vicar mare, Irish Day Dancer and is a full brother to stakes winner Go for Guinness. With his breeding and running style, the longer the distances get, look for more superlative results for this young gelding.

Cypress Park

by Mark Johnson

In Sunday's feature race at Hastings, a Maiden Special Weight for 3 and 4-year-old fillies the race was taken convincingly by 2nd time BC bred starter Cypress Park. Reluctant to load but eager to go, the well-bred filly went wire to wire in her first start as a three-year-old and completed the six and one half furlongs in a very good 1:17.85. Cypress Park was piloted by Enrique Gonzalez and is trained by Anita Bolton. The maiden victory earned a nice bonus of $5,000 each for owners, Nick and Pauline Felicella, and breeders White House Stables. Cypress Park is by Second in Command and out of the excellent Regal Remark mare, Mascaretta. Mascaretta has produced multiple stakes winners including Cypress Park's full sister Hollywood Miss, as well as $400,000 plus earner and champion, Ookashada. Cypress Park was sold to the Felicellas at the 2016 CTHS Yearling & Mixed Thoroughbred Sale for the bargain price of $25,000. The breeders, White House Stables, located in North Saanich, outside of Victoria, run a stellar operation which has produced three champions and they always bring a quality consignment to the annual yearling sale. As far as Cypress Park goes, look for this solid filly in future stakes races, possibly battling with another outstanding BC bred 3-year-old filly named Here's Hannah.

Bred and owned by Charles Fipke and trained by Roger Attfield, Not Bourbon was an exceptional racehorse whose accomplishments earned him a place in Canadian racing history. During his career on the track, Not Bourbon captured some of the nation’s most prestigious races, including the Queen’s Plate, Plate Trial, Queenston Stakes, and Overskate Stakes. As a two-year-old, he showed early promise by winning the Bull Page Stakes and setting a track record for six furlongs at Woodbine. Over the course of three racing seasons, Not Bourbon earned more than one million dollars, and his outstanding three-year-old campaign was recognized with a Sovereign Award. Retired to stud, Not Bourbon went on to become a champion sire in Ontario, further cementing his legacy in the breeding shed. In 2020, he relocated to British Columbia, standing his first season at Emerald Acres in Aldergrove, before moving to Flying Horse Farm in West Kelowna, where he continued to make a meaningful contribution to the provincial breeding industry.
